Laser Skin Tightening Myths and Facts

Laser Skin Tightening Myths and Facts

Here are the most regular myths that exist about Laser Skin Tightening; Let´s clear some things up by giving you real facts:

1. Myth:
Laser Tightening is very risky

Fact: All procedures come with some level of risk, but laser skin treatments are much safer than many people realize. Laser Tightening procedures must go through a series of clinical trials to prove they are safe and effective before getting FDA approval.

2. Myth:
Lasers produce Radiation that can cause cancer

Fact: No cosmetic lasers generate radiation. They operate in a wavelength that is considered safe because no radiation can be produced. Tightening lasers also only affect the skin and don’t penetrate deeper.

3. Myth:
There are topical creams that can do the same thing as lasers

Fact: Topical creams and serums don’t require FDA approval; therefore they don’t have to prove their claims of being just as good as lasers. They also don’t penetrate the skin as deeply as lasers.

4. Myth:
Lasers will make your skin thinner

Fact: In actuality, lasers do the exact opposite. The heat and stimulation of the laser can prompt natural collagen which makes the skin thicker and stronger.

5. Myth:
Laser Resurfacing is very painful

Fact: In the past lasers could be painful during the procedure, but the latest lasers incorporate features like cool tips and can treat larger areas to shorten the procedure time. However, it’s not uncommon to feel some discomfort during the treatment but it is not excessive.

6. Myth:
All Lasers basically do the same thing

Fact:  Lasers are developed for very specific purposes. At the most basic level, there are two types of lasers: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers remove the outermost layer of skin whereas non-ablative lasers send wavelengths farther down into the deeper layers of skin.

7. Myth:
People with dark skin tones can’t use Laser Tightening

Fact:  Here again it depends on the laser being used. Lasers that target pigment in the skin may not be ideal in some cases, but in many others situations the settings can be adjusted for an individual’s skin tone.
