What´s your skin Type?

There are four basic types of healthy skin: normal, dry, oily and combined skin. Skin type is determined by genetics. However, the condition of our skin can vary greatly according to the various internal and external factors it is subjected to.

Before understanding how to take care of your skin, you need to know what your skin type is in order to provide it with the best care according to weather changes, so let´s start:

Normal skin ‘Normal’

is a term widely used to refer to well-balanced skin: neither too oily nor too dry, if you have normal skin you have:

  1. No or few imperfections}No severe sensitivity
  2. No severe sensitivity
  3. Barely visible pores
  4. A radiant complexion
  • Tips: following the basics skin care that every skin type needs is enough; use a gentle and effective cleanser daily, a toner, a non-irritating & hydrating exfoliant, sunscreen with SPF 30 and a moisturizer.

Dry skin:

‘Dry’ is used to describe a skin type that produces less sebum than normal skin. As a result of the lack of sebum, dry skin lacks lipids that it needs to retain moisture and build a protective shield against external influences. Dry skin can feel tight and rough and look dull. If your skin is dry, you may have:

  1. Almost invisible pores
  2. Dull, rough complexion
  3. Red patches
  4. Your skin is less elastic
  5. More visible lines

Tips: It´s important the use of moisturizers and avoiding long, hot showers and baths. Specialists also recommend the use of a cream that contains lactic acid or lactic acid and urea, and of course a gentle and hydrating sunscreen.

Oily skin:

‘Oily’ is used to describe a skin type with heightened sebum production. This over production is known as seborrhea. Oily skin has a glossy shine and visible pores. If you have oily skin, you probably have:

  1. Enlarged pores
  2. Dull or shiny, thick complexion
  3. Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes

Tips: Oily skin needs a mild water-based cleanser every morning, a gentle exfoliant 2 or 3 times per week (Chemical exfoliants -such as AHAs and BHA are good), a toner, sunscreen and lightweight moisturizer. Also, oily skin needs professional facial treatments monthly.

Combined skin:

Combined skin consists of a mix of skin types. You skin may be:

  1. Pores that look larger than normal, because they’re more open
  2. Blackheads
  3. Shiny skin

Can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others.

Tips: You can use mild cream cleanser that works for both oily and dry parts of your face, toners are also important to balance skin’s pH levels, also you´ll need a retinol serum with SPF and a Hydrating but not heavy moisturiser.
